PoJK Sharnarthis highlight demands

JAMMU, July 25: POJK 1947 Sharnarthi Intellectuals Forum in its general body meeting here, today held under the chairmanship of advocate Amrik Singh chairman of the Forum discussed the various issues of Sharnarthis.
The agenda of the meeting was to apprise the members about the latest update regarding the Sharnarthis issues recently discussed and submitted through Sukhbir Singh Badal ex Dy CM Punjab and S Manjinder Singh Sirsa with the request to their onwards submission to Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and Prime Minster, Narendra Modi for the redressal.
The demands included that in the year 1947 due to aggression of Pakistan over 10 lakh people displaced to this part of Kashmir and took shelter in different camps in Jammu region. It said the Joint Parliamentary Committee has submitted its report to the Union Government in favour of refugees of 1947 and recommended Rs 30 lakh as ex-gratia per family in lieu of their left over property in PoJK.
It said that in the year 2013-14 State Government submitted a proposal to the Union Government for comprehensive relief package in lieu of the property of Rs 9000 crore which comes to the tune of Rs 30 lakh per family.
It said in the year 2016 GOI led by Prime Minster, Narendra Modi released an ex-gratia of Rs 5.50 lakh per family while Rs 24.50 lakh is still balance.
It said that only 9000 families were allotted the land while 27,918 people have been left and they be also allotted the land.
The Forum also demanded minority status for the Sikhs in the State and implementation of Anand Marriage Act.
Further it demanded reservation of eight seats for PoJK refugees out of 24 seats kept for PoJK in Assembly and delimitation of constituencies be started before the Assembly.
The meeting sought the intervention of both Prime Minster of India and the Governor of the State towards the demands of POJK Sharnarthis.
