PoJK DPs’ plea to Govt

JAMMU, Mar 30: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir must urgently publicize the list of displaced families from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), as these families face significant difficulties in accessing essential documents.
“Many are unable to claim compensation, government benefits, or land rights due to the lack of official recognition. Publicizing this list would not only help these families gain access to their entitlements but also provide a clear record of their plight, fostering greater awareness and support for their rehabilitation,” Sanjeev Kumar, a DP from Sohana said.
He stated that the issue of displaced families from PoJK remains one of the most significant and unresolved humanitarian challenges in the region. Over the years, these families have faced numerous hardships, from economic deprivation to social marginalization. Yet, despite their struggles, one of the biggest obstacles they still face today is the lack of proper documentation and recognition, which severely hampers their ability to access government benefits, claim compensation, or even settle in their rightful homes.
“One of the most pressing issues for these families is the absence of a publicly available and verified list of displaced families from PoJK. The absence of this official record not only prevents them from establishing their rights but also adds to the confusion and delay in the disbursement of compensation and rehabilitation measures promised by the government. Without this list, these families are left in a state of bureaucratic limbo, unable to prove their eligibility for various schemes, including financial aid, land rights, and even essential government services,” Kumar added.
He said the J&K government must take urgent steps to address this issue by making the list of PoJK displaced families publicly available. Transparency in this regard would not only help affected families access their due benefits but would also help policymakers address their concerns more effectively.
In addition to resolving the legal and bureaucratic hurdles, publicizing this list would also have a broader social impact. It would serve as an acknowledgment of the pain and suffering these families have endured for decades, especially given that many families are second or third-generation displaced persons, Kumar pleaded.
