JAMMU, Aug 4: A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at Janipur Police Station after a 15-year-old girl was confirmed pregnant at the SMGS Hospital in Jammu today.
According to official sources, the girl, a resident of Old Jammu City, was brought to the Hospital for a medical check-up, where doctors confirmed that she is several weeks pregnant. The matter was immediately reported to the police by the hospital authorities as per the mandatory guidelines under the POCSO Act, which protects minors from sexual offences.
The accused in the case is reportedly also a minor and a resident of the Janipur area. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the two minors may have been known to each other. A senior police official confirmed that an FIR has been registered and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances under which the incident occurred, including whether there was any coercion, abuse, or negligence involved.
Both families have been contacted, and further legal and medical procedures are underway. The case has raised serious concerns over child safety and the need for greater awareness regarding adolescent protection in society.
