KOCHI: Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a mission to transform the Nation.
Mr Modi is focusing on urban transformation which is critical for Transformation of India.
Speaking at the inauguration of Kochi Metro here, the Minister said new policy initiatives like Green Urban Transport and New Metro Policy are at an advanced stage of consideration which would promote climate friendly transport through increased private sector participation.
“Operational metro projects in the country would get doubled from the present 359 kms over the next two years with about 350 kms of metro lines becoming operational in 8 States. During the last three years 97 kms have been made operational.”
Kochi ?was selected as a Smart City with a total projects worth Rs 2000 Crore and has also set up a SVP. Public transport and non-motorised transport which is being encouraged in a big way to address the issues of congestion and pollution?.
The opening of 13.26 km with 11 stations of the Kochi Metro from Aluva to Palarivattom is a historic moment for the people of Kerala in general and for the people of Kochi in particular to witness the start of operation of metro rail system. (AGENCIES)
