PM Modi Highlights Affordable Healthcare Push On Jan Aushadhi Diwas

NEW DELHI, Mar 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greetings on Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026, saying the government’s flagship affordable medicine initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare for all citizens.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has helped millions of people access quality medicines at significantly lower prices.
“On #JanAushadhiDiwas2026, my best wishes to all those who have been positively impacted by the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana,” Modi said.
Highlighting the objective of the scheme, he added that the programme demonstrates the government’s resolve to make healthcare more affordable. “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medicines at affordable prices,” the Prime Minister said.
The scheme operates through a network of dedicated outlets known as Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which supply generic medicines at prices significantly lower than branded alternatives. According to the government, these centres have helped reduce the financial burden of healthcare on families across the country.
“Through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, countless families are saving on healthcare expenses and receiving proper treatment,” Modi said in his post.
Launched by the Central government to promote the use of generic medicines, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana aims to expand access to affordable drugs, particularly for economically weaker sections. Over the years, thousands of Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened across India, supplying a wide range of medicines covering various therapeutic categories.
Jan Aushadhi Diwas is observed annually to raise awareness about the benefits of generic medicines and to highlight the Government’s efforts to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for people across the country. (Agencies)
