UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: The first-ever regional Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti (PMGS) and Defence Works seminar for the Armed Forces was held at Headquarters Northern Command, Udhampur, on August 26-27, 2025.
The two-day event brought together experts from the military, Government, and industry to discuss ways to improve connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and enhance operational efficiency in the difficult and remote terrains under Northern Command.
The seminar highlighted the role of modern infrastructure in meeting strategic Defence needs under the Gati Shakti initiative.
Key participants included the Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti University and representatives from the Ministries of Railways, Road Transport & Highways, DPIIT, BISAG-N, and ULIP NLDSL, who shared insights on how the PMGS platform can support the Armed Forces.
Officers of Northern Command gained valuable understanding of integrating military requirements into civil infrastructure projects.
Dual-use projects, combining civilian development with Defence preparedness, were emphasized as a way to boost regional development while strengthening security.
In his keynote address, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, SM, stressed the importance of PMGS projects in the Northern Theatre.
He noted that several projects were already at an advanced approval stage, and Northern Command aims to include more initiatives under the scheme.
The seminar also featured discussions on ongoing Defence Works along the Western and Northern borders and their integration with broader infrastructure development, highlighting the synergy between strategic Defence needs and regional growth.
