CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made an aerial survey of Chennai city today, has announced an immediate relief of Rs 1000 crore for Tamil Nadu.
Mr Modi said it will be released “immediately by the Centre”. “This is over and above Rs 940 crore which was released earlier,” he said.
The Prime Minister, flanked by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, said ”the government of India will stand by the people of Tamil Nadu in their hour of need.”
Earlier, Ms Jayalalithaa requested the Prime Minister to come to the rescue of the state as it suffered a huge loss due to unprecedented rains.
Earlier, after arriving at Rajali Naval Air base at Arakkonam near here, Mr Modi viewed the photo exhibition of the flood affected areas and asked the officials about the flood situation.
He later made an aerial survey of Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvalur districts and saw the damages.
