JAMMU, Dec 17: A collection of essays in Punjabi, titled ‘Mittar Asaadfe Sei’ written by a renowned writer Dr Monojit from Jammu, was released by Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS), Jammu in a function organized at K L Saigal Auditorium, Writers’ Club, Cultural Academy, Jammu on Wednesday.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, former additional aecretary JKAACL presided over the programme whereas Dr Baljit Kour, former HoD, PG Deptt of Punjabi, University of Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion. Dr Baljeet Raina, president, PLS-J, and Popinder Singh Paras, Chief Editor Sheeraza Punjabi shared the dais.
A paper on the content and critical evaluation of the released book ‘Mittar Asaadre Sei’, was presented by Dr Harsimran Singh, Asstt Prof PG Deptt of Punjabi, University of Jammu.
It may be mentioned that the released book is a collection of seventeen essays on the lives of prominent writers of Jammu & Kashmir, his experiences of life with them, and their role in spreading the literary traditions of the region in various languages. Dr Monojit has contributed 19 poetry, fiction and essays books so far.
Dr Amn in his address appreciated Dr Monojit for performing his role as a satirist as well as a writer, with commitment and truthfulness in his expressions. He said that the released book not only relates to the fifteen writers of Jammu & Kashmir, but reflects on the importance of documentation of those great contributors. He termed Dr Monojit as a wise writer, and gave few glimpses of the pieces of essays included in the book.
Dr Baljit Kour appreciated the contribution of Dr Monojit in the field of Punjabi literature, particularly in the field of satire, which is a distinctive genre in itself. She said that the versatile expressions of Monojit in various genres of literature would help the scholars of the University of Jammu in understanding his versatility and various genres written by the same writer.
Earlier, Dr Nirmal Vinod who also wrote the foreword in the book, Harjit Singh Uppal, President Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R S Pura, Bhupinder Singh Raina, a renowned novelist, Devinder Singh Vishavnagrik, renowned playwright & poet, A S Mastana and Joginder Singh Paandhi, renowned Ghazal writers also expressed their views on the book.
