JAMMU, Oct 1: A literary programme was organized by Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu (PLS- J) to release the book ‘Mere Manchit Naatak’, the collection of plays written by Bikramjeet (the pen name of Bikram Singh), here today.
Dr Baljeet Kaur, HoD Punjabi Department, University of Jammu, was the chief guest whereas Dr Satvir Singh Raina was the special guest on this occasion. Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, presided over the programme.
Dr Pritam Singh from Deptt of Punjabi, JU and literary critic and Dr Amandeep Anand, Principal Tariq College of Education, Rajouri and theatre activist, presented their papers on the book released and the contribution of Bikramjeet in the field of writing, acting and direction on stage, in tele- serials, tele- films and feature films.
In his presidential address, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn appreciated the contribution of Bikramjeet in the genre of play writing and other aspects of theatre, tele- films and feature films is enormous. His collection of plays will help theatre people in performing Punjabi plays which are not so much available in the literary circles in the State, he added.
Bikramjeet narrated his journey of theatre and playwriting while Dr Satveer Singh also expressed his views during the programme. Dr Monojit, president PLS- J, threw light on the activities and programmes of the Sabha.
Bikramjeet has written stage plays like ‘Kudrat De Sab Bandey’ (Punjabi play, staged during 1983- 84), ‘Swaal’ (Hindi Play, 1984), ‘Babul Da Vehra (Punjabi play, staged during 1985), ‘Main Hindostan Haan’ (Punjabi play, staged during 1990, 91 and 1992) and ‘Rab De Baraati’ (Punjabi play, 1984).
He has worked for Doordarshan, New Delhi, Jammu, Srinagar and DD Kashir channels.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Baljeet Singh Raina, general secretary, PLS- J. S S Chouhalvi, former president Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu extended the vote of thanks.
