JAMMU, Mar 3: On second day of the 12th JK Science Congress, plenary and technical sessions were held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium and Science Departments with senior research scientists participating from various parts of the State and the country presenting their outstanding research papers in different disciplines of science.
In the morning, plenary session was held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium where Dr Susheel Sharma from GMC Jammu, delivered the plenary lecture. Dr. Sharma’s lecture, entitled “Cardovascular Disease: Prevalence, screening, Symptoms and prevention”, highlighted that the increasing prevalence of CVD risk factors can be gauged from the unprecedented rise in the number of people with uncontrolled hypertension diabetes, obesity and smoking.
“Most people develop CVDs due to a combination of factors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity and smoking, The more risk factors you expose yourself to, the higher the chance of developing cardiovascular disease”, the cardiologist said.
In another plenary lecture, Dr John Haines from World Health Organization, Geneva, shared the experiences of a chemist and research scientist in handling chemicals and the issues relating to sound use of chemicals and their relations with in health, natural disasters and global environmental changes.
Renowned Paleontologist and the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee, Prof GVR Prasad from the Centre for Advanced Study, Department of Geology, highlighted the pre-historic northward journey of the Indian plate from Gondwanaland to Asia: Consequences for biological evolution, while Prof R. K Sinha from Patna University talked on the current status and conservation of the rarest and endangered Dolphins of The Ganges River.
In the afternoon, invited lectures were held in various science departments. Prominent invited speakers include Prof T N Lakhanpal from Shimla, B M Sharma, IFS, Jammu, Prof A G Madhosh, Srinagar, Prof. P N Kotru, Dr Rajeshwar Jasrotia, Dr C M Seth, Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Prof F A Nehvi from Srinagar, Prof. P S Kalsi, Ludhiana, Dr. Parvinder P Singh, IIIM, Jammu and others.
Later on, the participants of the JK Science Congress made their oral and poster presentation in various Science sections.
