Plaque installation meant to distract from Kashmir’s real problems: Mir

SRINAGAR, Sept 9: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Dooru MLA G.A. Mir today criticized the installation of a national emblem plaque at Hazratbal Shrine, calling it a political move to divert attention from real issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Mir said, “I do not remember till today any work carried out in religious places where an inauguration board was put up. The Ram Temple in Ayodhya was also built, but did it start with such a big fanfare? Did you see the Prime Minister’s board there? No.”

He added that the shrine had been remodeled and not newly constructed. “It has been beautified, and the people have praised it. The common man has praised it,” he said.
Addressing the necessity of the board, Mir questioned its relevance, saying, “Whether it should be depicted or not, we have to put up a board here. If you put a similar board in any religious place belonging to Sikhs or Hindus, there would be objections.”
The AICC leader further called the installation unnecessary. “Until this board was put up, there was a lot of appreciation on social media. Whoever did this, whether it was a party or an individual, it was appreciated. But as soon as this happened, it should not have been done. Even without this, people know that the Waqf Board has worked in Dargah Sharif.”
Mir alleged political motives behind the move. “Such steps are taken with intentions. It is not a mistake. Such actions are being carried out under the pretext of diverting the attention of the people of Jammu and Kashmir from our issues to other issues.”
Commenting on the broader political context, he said, “Such issues are being created to divert public attention. To suppress a public issue, the Hazratbal issue came up. Dargah Sharif has not yet been settled as to whose responsibility it is. In a few days, MLA Doda’s issue emerged. Soon, another issue will surface. This is all management: how to divert attention from real issues and shift people’s focus elsewhere.”
