RAJOURI, Feb 1; Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road connecting Plangarh to Badhano has been lying in a highly deplorable condition for the past nearly two years, triggering strong resentment among the local populace.
The road, which is a vital link for thousands of commuters from Thanna Mandi and Darhal tehsils, has reportedly not received the mandatory maintenance despite clear-cut guidelines that place the responsibility of upkeep on the concerned department and contractor for a period of five years.
Residents alleged that the condition of the Plangarh-Badhano road has deteriorated to such an extent that daily travel has become risky and painful. Dozens of school buses carrying small children ply on this road every day, exposing them to serious safety hazards. Besides, thousands of villagers from Plangarh, Saaj, Badhano, Nadian, Rakiban, Ujhan, Kothra, Maharajpura and adjoining areas depend on this road for their routine movement, including access to schools, health facilities, markets and offices.
The public expressed anguish over the alleged inaction of the PMGSY authorities and the administration, stating that repeated complaints have failed to yield any concrete results. “It is unfortunate that neither the concerned department nor the executing contractor is paying any heed to the sufferings of the people,” locals said, questioning the absence of accountability and responsibility in the matter.
The aggrieved residents have now appealed the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to take serious cognizance of the issue and issue immediate directions to the PMGSY authorities for urgent repair and restoration of the road. They demanded that responsibility be fixed on the erring officials and contractor to ensure that such negligence is not repeated in future.
People warned that if timely action is not taken, they would be left with no option but to intensify their protest to highlight their genuine grievances.
