SRINAGAR, Nov 11: For the first time, advanced laparoscopic surgery for kidney cancer has been performed at the District Hospital Pulwama.
Officials mentioned that typically such surgeries are performed at Tertiary Care hospitals, making this a first-of-its-kind procedure undertaken by any district hospital in J&K.
Excelsior was informed that Consultant Urologist Dr. Aashaq Hussain Bhat and his team led the kidney cancer treatment surgery at the hospital.
“Termed laparoscopic radical nephrectomy, this procedure is highly advanced and technically demanding, specifically designed for malignant renal tumors,” said Dr. Mir Mushtaq, Spokesperson for DHSK.
The doctors regarded the surgery as a significant leap for any district hospital, noting that typically, patients requiring such an intricate procedure are referred to tertiary-level hospitals, resulting in prolonged wait times.
The officials mentioned that the surgical team included Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Consultant Anesthesia, Dr. Mubashir, Dr. Karan, and Dr. Aashaq Hussain, along with a dedicated team of assistants led by Mehrajudin Reshi, Rafia Jan, and Khursheed, all supervised by Mohammad Shaban.
