SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Defying physical challenges and social stigma, a 12-year-old girl from Wakoora in Ganderbal district is winning hearts with her singing talent and emerging as an inspiration for many.
Uzma Gulzar, who lives with dwarfism, discovered her passion for singing almost by chance.
Her journey began when a video of her singing at a cousin’s wedding was recorded and uploaded on social media, where it quickly went viral.
“That video changed everything,” Uzma said. “It gave me confidence. I thought I could also do it and follow my passion.”
Following the overwhelming response, Uzma created her own YouTube channel, where she regularly uploads singing videos.
She has since garnered around 54,000 followers, steadily building a strong online presence.
Uzma says she is unfazed by her physical condition or by negative remarks from people.
“I am not bothered about my dwarfism or what people say. Allah has created me like this, and I have no complaints,” she said.
“If someone teases me about my height, I tell them it has nothing to do with them.”
Her mother, Haseena, said the family has always stood firmly by Uzma.
“After her birth, we gradually realised she has dwarfism. Some people teased her, but it never bothered us,” she said.
“She has the willingness to follow her passion, and we support her fully.”
Haseena said Uzma balances her studies with her interest in singing and also attends religious education.
“She faces some problems, especially while commuting, and we have to accompany her. But otherwise, she does everything like any other child,” she said.
Calling her daughter a blessing, Haseena added, “She is our luck. For me, she is equal to ten sons. Allah has given her to us, and she is capable of doing everything despite her physical challenges.”
