LEH, Mar 10: A delegation from Phey village led by Village Nambardar Tsering Motup met Hill Council Chairman Dr.Sonam Dawa to oppose the Go Green Project at Phyang Thang. “Go Green” project aimed to convert a barren land into cultivable land through construction of Ice Stupa by diverting the Phyang Nallah water to which villagers raised objection.
Go Green plan is a massive plantation drive to plant thousands of saplings on the barren land. Showing their resentment the villagers alleged that if water is converted on such barren land then Phey village already facing water scarcity will face serious challenge in future. They further added that agreement stands between Phey and Phyang village where both mutually agreed not to divert the Phyang Nallah water to any new inhabited barren land.
They also informed the CEC that they would not even allow to dig bore well on any barren land which would affect their natural water spring in their village. The agitated villager said that they are totally depend on Phyang Nallah water for irrigating their ancestral farm land for centuries and such “Go Green project” would badly affect their farming activities. LAHDC CEC Dr.Sonam Dawa assured some concrete solution within few days time by inviting both parties on a common platform to solve the issue in an amicable way. He also added that Go Green is an International level project which must not be affected and there must be some solution which will be win-win situation for the both stakeholder.
However, later speaking to the media the village Nambardar Tsering Motup expressing his dissatisfaction over Hill Council Chairman assurance said that they will not rest till things are in their favour and they would intensify their protest if the project is not stopped immediately. Respon-ding to a query the villager alleged that they were never consulted or taken into confidence while making proposal for such mega project “Go Green” that will affect the 74 households in the village.
