PHE workers stage dharnas, demand withdrawal of Govt circular

JAMMU, Apr 15: PHE Workers Welfare Association today started two-day protest dharnas in all the PHE divisions of Jammu region against the so called Circular No. 9 of GAD dated March 26, 2013 related to termination of daily rated workers engaged after the year 1994 and demanded immediate withdrawal of it.
The employees held massive demonstration in their concerned divisions such at PHE division Kathua, Samba,city-II Mechanical, PHE Rural Mechanical, City Division-I, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi Darmari, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, etc under the leadership of Baldev Singh, Guari Shanker, Chuni Lal, Ravi Kumar, Babu Singh, etc, who addressed the gatherings in their respective divisions.
The employees were demanding early redressal of their demands including regularization of daily rated workers after completion of five years of service, regular wages before 5th of every month and release of 25 months backlog wages.
In Jammu the employees of City Division No-I, PHE Rural Division Jammu and Mechanical Division North, staged dharna in the office complex of Chief Engineer, PHE department, Jammu.
Addressing the protesting employees, provincial president of the Association, Bakshi Singh and general secretary, Subhash Chander Verma, said that the Government act of termination of daily rated workers is unjustified and inhuman. They said that the State Government is working against the spirit of Indian constitution, which provides guarantee of job to every youth. They warned the State Government to withdraw the circular No 9 immediately or otherwise be ready to face consequences of direct mass action by the PHE employees.
The employees also took candle processions in all the divisions. In Jammu the employees took candle procession through the main bazaars in the evening.
