PHE workers protest, demand release of 60 months salary

JAMMU, Aug 20: A large number of PHE daily wagers and other workers held strong protest demonstration in the office complex of Chief Engineer at BC Road, Jammu  and demanded release of five years salary of the workers.
The workers under the banner of PHE Workers Welfare Association assembled at BC Road PHE complex in the morning  and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the higher authorities in the PHE department. They also raised slogans against Chief Engineer and Commissioner/ Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control.
Senior Trade Union leader Bakshi Singh  and others were leading the protest.    They demanded release of  pending 60 months salary in favour of PHE daily wagers/ consolidated workers,  expedite the process of their regularization and  clearance of all the pending SRO 43 cases in the department.
The Association  also demanded that before EId and Raksha Bandan, at least five months wages of the workers be released. Their families are facing starvation. They demanded  that Divisional level DPC and SITU promotion system should not be disturbed and the DPC at all levels be convened in time bound manner and the fresh placements be made shortly to over come the shortfall.
They also demanded repair of old buildings, pumping stations and provide torch, umbrellas, raincoats etc  to the duty staff. They said field staff be exempted from bio-metric attendance in the offices as it has created problem for the field staff. They also demanded constitution of welfare fund for the workers on the pattern of PDD.
Prominent among those who joined protest included,  Surjeet  Singh, Ram Lubhaya, Bansi Lal, Subhash Verma, Mohd Shafi, Lal Chand and Chain Singh.
