UDHAMPUR, Nov 3: Jal Shakti PHE Employees and Workers Association, District Udhampur, today held a meeting at the PHE Complex here under the chairmanship of Som Nath, senior trade union leader.
The members strongly criticized the Government for failing to address the genuine demands of daily wagers and casual workers.
Speaking at the meeting, Som Nath expressed disappointment over the Government’s inaction despite repeated assurances.
He said that during the recent Assembly session, no attention was given to the issues of daily wagers by either the ruling or opposition members.
He added that even after six months, the committee formed by the Government to look into workers’ demands has not submitted its report.
The association raised several key issues, including the immediate regularization of daily wagers, ITI and land case workers who have completed seven years of service under SRO-64, and the release of pending wages for around 65 to 70 months from 2014 to 2020. They also demanded that dues of retired workers be cleared with interest.
Som Nath further said that the minimum wage rate in Jammu is just Rs 311 per day, which is much lower than in Delhi or even in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
He termed it a clear case of discrimination and urged the Government to revise the rates as per the Minimum Wages Act.
Som Nath appealed to all employees and workers to remain united in their struggle for justice and to continue pressing for their long-pending demands.
Senior leaders including Vijay Kumar Sharma, Suraj Parkash, Dinesh Kesar, Makhan Chand, Sham Singh, Karan Singh, Mohan Singh, Prabu Lal, Shambu Nath, and Tilak Raj Katoch also addressed the gathering.
