UDHAMPUR, Jan 2: Jal Shakti/ PHE Employees and Worker Association held a strong protest at PHE Complex, Udhampur under the chairmanship of Som Nath, District president and senior Trade Union leader from Jammu Province today.
While addressing protesting workers, Som Nath said that the UT Govt is not serious to solve genuine demands of the of the PHE daily wagers. The Govt framed the a five- member committee headed by the Chief Secretary which had to give its report in six months but the committee has not submitted the report till date. . The committee has no role like pending wages, Minimum Wages Act, shortage of staff etc. The Govt is saying that the public has given us mandate for five years but there is no mandate for the Govt. The Govt has taken all facilities like new vehicles, hike in the MLA’s salary and fulfilled the protocol.
He strongly demanded that all the CP, ITI, land case workers who have completed 7 years should be regularized immediately. The Govt should release pending wages of workers of last 65-70 months (W.e.f. 2014-2020).
Som Nath further demanded hike on Minimum wages of the workers at par with Delhi or other UTs, removal of acute shortage of staff as the staff is over burdened. Many pumping/ water stations were added during last over a decade but no new field staff was appointed. The JJM schemes will not run without workers due to which these schemes are not running. Due to retirements, many water supply schemes are turning non- functional and shortage of staff is major issue. The dues of the retired employees have remained unpaid since long. He said the DPC in the PHE department has not conducted for long in favour of employees. It should be done as soon as possible.
