SAMBA, Apr 12: PHE daily wagers took out a procession in Samba today in protest against the recent announcement of retrenchment of those daily wagers who were engaged from 1994 to 2005.
However, police foiled the bid of daily wagers to block the Samba Chowk by resorting to sit in dharna there as a big pose of police was already manning the Chowk and its surrounding area.
The police did not allow the processionists to proceed towards the Chowk and pushed them back. The daily wagers in their bid to reach the Chowk also jostled with the police but it foiled their attempt forcing them to disperse peacefully.
The protestors raising slogans against the Government policy demanded that the services of daily wagers engaged from 1994 to 2005 be regularized immediately.
They warned to intensify agitation in case the regularization orders were not issued by the Government in favour of the daily wagers. The procession was led by Swaran Singh president of PHE Employees Welfare Association Samba.
While addressing the protestors he termed the announcement made by Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather regarding the retrenchment of daily wagers totally unfortunate. These workers have served the department near about two decades and have now become overaged hence can’t get any Government job. He said the Government in a welfare State like ours is duty bound to ensure the job security to these youth otherwise their families will starve after their disengagement from the services.
