SRINAGAR, July 7: Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sheeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district is without basic facilities including medicines and attendants of the patients have to buy the same from outside in the market.
Anguished at the lack of medicines, the attendants said that the hospital in no way serves the patients and if the same situation persists, the Government should lock it down.
The attendants said that they are mulling to come out on roads and stage protests against Government apathy. They said that the hospital is locked after 5 in the evening as it lacks other facilities including availability of doctors.
An attendant, Gulshana, said that they face lot of problems. “There are no medicines available in the hospital. If anyone falls ill at night, we can’t come here as doctors are not available here. Sometimes, a compounder is visible but we are asked to buy syringes and other necessary medicines from outside.”
An employee of the hospital, wishing anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to media, said that situation is same since last two months.
The Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sheeri, Dr Shabir Pathan, denied that there is no supply of medicines. “We have received annual supply,” he told Excelsior.
“There was problem with drip sets. But then we purchased at our own,” he said, adding: “if the drip sets haven’t been supplied this time, then I will ask doctors to purchase it from outside,” he said.
