Petroleum Minister presents ‘Oil Industry Safety Awards’

NEW DELHI, Aug 2: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas S Jaipal Reddy along with Minister of State presented “Oil Industry Safety Awards” for the year 2009-10 and 2010-11.
These awards were given by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recognizing the efforts of the oil and natural gas industry’s in enhancing safety performance of the oil installation thereby improved productivity, profitability and sustainability.
While speaking, S Jaipal Reddy said that organizations handling such facilities needed to adopt best industry practices to mitigate hazards in most effective manner. He added that safety practices not only help in saving valuable lives but also help in saving the crucial infrastructure, which maintains steady flow of oil and gas to keep the wheels of prosperity moving.
RPN Singh while speaking urged upon the industry to introspect whether it is sufficiently investing in safety to make work place free from accidents.
Speaking on the occasion, GC Chaturvedi, Secretary, P&NG mentioned that the modern best practices for safety system design, implementation, enhancement and upkeep must be applied so that design and engineering of the plant, process control and instrumentations and inbuilt safety features and operating practices are adequate even if there is an error in human intervention.
Earlier, Hirak Dutta, Executive Director, OISD presented the welcome address and said that the safety and process safety management of these vital oil installations and its preservations is of paramount importance.
