JAMMU, Aug 7: People in various areas of Jammu city and its outskirts are facing severe power crisis, since the onset of this Summer forcing them to come to streets in open protest against the PDD which despite the tall claims has failed to improve the power supply.
“The failure of PDD to maintain the round the clock power supply during the Summer season is a cause of concern among the masses”, said Jagesh Singh a resident of Rehari. He said Jammu faces complete blackout for hours together in case there is even mild rainfall or storm as the power supply gets disrupted.
He said the Rehari area especially Old Rehari faces four to five hour power cut daily for months together, now and the concerned authorities fail to solve the problem despite the repeated pleas of people.
The VIP area in the surroundings gets round the clock power supply while the other localities face black out for four to five hours daily which has generated a lot of resentment in the area. Singh said in case the problem was not settled once for all, the people will be forced to come to streets against PDD.
Singh made an appeal to Deputy Chief Minster, Dr Nirmal Singh and asked him to look into the matter.
“The Bharat Nagar and Ganga Nagar localities of Bantalab took to streets today as the authorities have failed to replace the transformer in the area which developed a snag few days back. The transformer was replaced after four days, yesterday in the area but it developed a snag again after working for few hours”, said Bansi Lal Pandita a local resident.
He said the people of two localities protested against the PDD authorities today and brought the matter in the notice of MP Shamsher Singh Manhas also, who was on the visit to the area. He said power failure has put the people to many hardships in this hot and humid Summer and authorities were not responding to the public demands properly.
The power supply remained off in various localities of Muthi, Barnai, Patoli Brahmana for 24 hours after the fault in 33kv line at Top last night putting the people to lot of trouble. “There is total blackout in case, there is a rainfall or hailstorm as the system is so weak that it can’t resist the drizzling even”, said Omi Khajuria district president BJP Jammu Rural. He said the tall trees along the Ranbir Canal need to be cut by planting small trees as they are the major problem during hail storm in disrupting power supply after getting up rooting snapping 33 or 11 kv line or uprooting the electric poles. This way a huge amount is spent on restoration of power supply and the authorities should find an everlasting solution to the problem.
