No maintenance of road by R&B

UDHAMPUR, Jan 30: The people from Pancheri and Meer Panchyat today held strong protest against the PW(R&B) Department and blocked road for about four hours.
They were protesting against the worst condition of Udhampur-Kainthgalli-Pancheri Road which has not been maintained/ repaired by the PW(R&B) Department for many years. Sarpanch Pancheri, Kuldip Kumar, Sapranch meer Navina Devi, several Panches and people of the area assembled near Chobu Nallah which is main bottle neck on this road but not repaired or maintained by the R&B Division Udhampur or the PMGSY agency, and stated protest demonstration.
The agitating public raised barricades on the road and sat on dharna at around 11 am. The movement of vehicles was stopped on the road. Many vehicles on both sides remained stranded for about four hours. The agitating villagers were shouting slogans against Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, Chief Engineer PMGSY, concerned Executive Engineers, Deputy Commissioner Jammu and even the Lt Governor G C Murmu and his Advisors. They also shouted slogans against the contractors – Parshotam Singh and Dr Shabir. They alleged that condiction has more wiorsened after taking over by G C Murmu. There is no accountability among the officials.
” Nobody cares about the public plight. DC/ADC / SDM etc do not hold public darbar in this remote area and listen to the public. This culture has gone missing,” Sarpanch Kuldip Kumar alleged .
The people alleged that road upgrdation work has been taken up by the contractors under PMGSY on this road but they are not maintajning the road, violating the contract agreement while concerned Executive Engineer/ AEEs etc have shut their eyes. They said at Chobu Nalla, a load carrier got struck this morning and suffered massive damage. This is routine there and many casualities have taken place in this area. The agencies do not take lesson.
Later, SHO Pancheri, Arun Kohli, Executive Engineer PMGSY Gurnam Singh, AEE and Naib Tehsildar concerned reached the spot. They gave assurance to the agitating public that road maintenance work would start within two days, then the people lifted dharna and cleared road at around 3 pm.
