People seek opening of Mughal Road

Srinagar, Apr 11: People of south Kashmir’s Shopian district today sought the opening of Mughal Road, which is an alternate surface connectivity of Valley to Jammu and rest of the country, and urged concerned authorities to speed up the snow clearance work.
The Mughal Road, which was expected to be thrown open on April 7, is still closed for the traffic as the road has been hit by multiple avalanches and wide slides, officials said. People however demanded that extra efforts and machinery should be involved in the snow clearance work to make the Highway through.
They said that due to inclement weather the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway often remains closed temporarily and as result the people of the Valley are facing difficulties. “The people across also face difficulties,” they added.
An official of the Mechanical Engineering Department meanwhile said that the snow has been cleared from one side and is being cleared from the other.
