UDHAMPUR, Oct 12: The people from Majori and Basantgarh area besides several hamlets of Kulwanta today held protest against PWD (R&B) authorities for the worst condition of Ramnagar- Basantgarh Road.
The villagers of the area assembled near Kulwanta, between Ramnagar and Basantgarh and held protest demonstration against the attitude of neglect of the R&B authorities. They alleged that no repair work was undertaken by the R&B authorities on this road since long and every year huge funds are shown spent on this road for maintenance and repair. They demanded im-mediate repair and black-topping of this road.
The locals claimed that to fill some pits and broken road space, good earth was filled at some patches but due to rain, the same washed away and the road turned slippery and accidental prone. No black topping work was taken up on this road since long and the condition of road from Kulwanta to Majouri and up to Gandh Top and Basantgarh is worst. The private transport operators avoid to ply their vehicles on this route due to bad condition of road.
No action has been taken by the District Administration and PWD authorities Ramnagar and Udhampur to repair the road from Ramnagar to Basantgarh which is about 65 km. It takes about 4 to 5 hours by bus to cover this distance and it speaks about the condition of this road.
The locals demanded inquiry into the funds shown spent by the R&B authorities on this road during last five years. They alleged that it is big scandal and the Governor’s Administrator must hold an impartial inquiry into the funds spent on this road and the ground position of the road and it big mismatch. The road has become accidental probe at many places and the concerned R&B authorities must be held responsible in case of any mishap on this road takes place.
