UDHAMPUR, Oct 12: The villagers from Katwalt and Tounthla in teshil Ramnagar of district Udhampur today held protest against PHE Department for its failure supply drinking water to the people of the area since long.
The locals of the area today came out on the road at the village and held protest demonstration disrupting movement of traffic for some time. They shouted slogans against PHE authorities Ramnagar and District Administration Udhampur for their failure to address the issue. Several children also joined the protest.
The villagers said that PHE Department has failed to ensure supply of drinking water and people of the area are totally dependent on the natural sources but the water of natural sources is not safe for drinking as it is muddy. Due to consumption of unhygienic water, the children and elderly people of the area have been affected with several ailments.
Inhabitants of Katwalt and adjoining area where the maximum number of people became victims of diarrhea had been drinking unsafe water. They alleged that matter was brought to the notice of Administration at Ramnagar and also the concerned AEE and the Executive Engineer but they failed to take cognizance of the matter.
They said about two years ago, the PHE Department was installing the pipe line to the village. But they did not get the adequate water till date. Still the pipes are lying broken at many places. Even the rain water enter inside. The concerned staff is least bothered. The villagers appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Malik and the Chief Secretary to intervene personally and provide them relief.
Prominent among those who accompanied the protesters included Sham Lal, Suram Chand, Hans Raj, Sanjay Kumar, Gian Chand, Tirth Ram, Babu Ram, Romesh Chander and Hem Raj.
