MENDHAR, June 13: The people from Bhata Durian and adjoining areas of Gursai held protest demonstration at Kallar Morha near Bhimber Gali against PHE authorities and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for three hours.
Reports said that the villagers came out on the road at around 9 AM and raised barricades. They held strong protest against PHE Department for their failure to ensure supply of drinking water to the people of Gursai area. The villagers alleged that most of the water pumping stations in the area are lying defunct and pipes have broken. The concerned PHE staff has failed to provide supply of water despite repeated requests for the last several weeks. They demanded supply through tanker till smooth water supply is restored.
The vehicles on this highway came to grinding halt. Then SHO Gursai and Naib Tehsildar reached there but the people refused to lift dharna. Later, SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nahim and X-En PHE Poonch reached there and on their assurance, the people lifted dharna at around 12 noon.
