POONCH, July 24: The villagers from Sakhi Maidan and adjoining hamlets of Mendhar today held protest demonstration against PDD authorities and blocked Mendhar-Poonch roads for about two hours.
Reports from Mendhar said that people launched agitation after the buffalo of one Khaliq Hussain, son of Khadam Hussain of Sakhi Maidan got trapped in a live electricity wire lying on the ground and was electrocuted on the spot. Khaliq, who tried to save his cattle, was also injured due to the carelessness of the concerned PDD field staff. It was said that this villager had also lost his another cattle in the similar type of incident some time back while grazing.
After this incident, the villagers of the area got agitated. They blocked Mendhar-Poonch road and started protest demonstration at Sakhi Maidan at around 2 pm. They started shouting slogans against AEE Mendhar, Executive Engineer PDD Poonch and concerned field staff. They demanded action against the field staff for this negligence.
Later, SHO Mendhar, Abid Rafiqqi and SI Javed Manhas reached there with some force. They talked to the villagers and assured a legal action in this regard. The people then lifted dharna after about two hours. The movement of vehicles was restored on the road. The police registered a case FIR No. 121/2017 against concerned Sub Divisional officer and other field staff of PDD in the area.
