MENDHAR, Aug 29: The people from Balakote and Mankote areas held strong protest against the PDD authorities for their failure to provide power supply.
Reports said that for the last about two months eight electric transformers in Balakote block of district Poonch are out of order and concerned PDD staff has failed to replace the same. Numberdar Riaz Ahmed and former Sarpanch Sarfraz from Balakote alleged that concerned AEE Mendhar, JE and even SDM Mendhar were approached but even after that the damaged transformers were not replaced. The public has been left to suffer. The AEE concerned claimed that he had no spare transformers. After holding protest at Block headquarters for some time, the helpless villagers dispersed.
Similar protest was lodged by the residents from Ghani and Sagra at Mankote tehsil headquarters against the PDD authorities today. The villagers alleged that due to long power cuts, they are facing lot of hardships. The power is made available hardly for 5-6 hours a day. They blocked Mendhar-Poonch road for two hours and lodged protest against local Administration and PDD. Later, Tehsildar arrived there and he gave assurance to take up the matter with the concerned Executive Engineer. The people then cleared the road.
