People protest negligent death by doctors

SAMBA, Oct 11: People blocked the vehicular movement on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway at Bari Brahmana, after a youth died, due to alleged negligence by the doctors at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The agitators including family members and relatives laid the body of the youth at the Bari Brahmana Chowk and raised slogans against the GMCH authorities. The blockade led to long traffic snarls on the National Highway.
The family members alleged that their ward identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Om Parkash, a resident of Deoli got injured in road accident near Bishnah on October 4 and was undergoing treatment at GMCH.
They alleged that doctors didn’t provide him necessary medicare resulting into the death of the youth.
“There is no proper facility in the hospital and no senior staff was available in the hospital. Junior doctors and the medical students were diagnosing the patients in this big hospital, which leads to loss of precious lives”, they alleged.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that due to negligence by the doctors, their kin has died and demanded probe into the matter, so that the doctors behind the negligence death could be punished.
After getting information, police team led by SDPO Bari Brahmana Kulbeer Handa rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors.
After getting pacified, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
When contacted, GMC Principal, Dr Ghansham Dev told the Excelsior that postmortem of the victim was conducted by a Board of Doctors including senior faculty from Surgery, Orthopedics and Forensic Departments.
He added that after getting the inputs from the autopsy report, the action will be taken if anyone will be found guilty in the incident.
