DODA, June 14: The residents of various areas held protest against the irregularities in the works carried out under MGNREGA. However, police resorted to cane-charge and arrested 14 protesters
Large number of residents from Changa, Gandoh and Chilli blocks assembled at tehsil headquarters Gandoh and held protest yesterday. They sat on dharna for the whole night and raised slogans against the Government.
As a precautionary measure, District Administration imposed Section 144 CrPC in Gandoh, but despite that the protesters continued their dharna.
The protesters demanded immediate action against those, who indulged in bungling in the works being carried out under MGNREGA.
Early morning, police rushed to the spot and resorted to cane-charge on the protesters. However, no one got injured in lathi-charge, but police arrested over dozen people.
One of the protester condemned the police action and added that cane-charge by police can not stop them for raising voice against irregularities being carried out under the garb of MGNREGA.
In the afternoon, the people again held protest and tried to enter police station Gandoh to get their arrested people released.
When contacted, SHO Gandoh Inspector Tariq Ahmed Naik said that the action against the protesters was taken on the orders of SDM Gandoh. He added that 14 persons have been arrested as Section 144 was imposed by the District Administration in Gandoh and they were not obeying the laws.
