POONCH, Apr 8: A large number of people and many members of Youth Civil Society Poonch today held strong protest against Government for its failure to restore damaged bridge on Mandi road near Dera Nagali Sahib.
The protesting people led by Imtiaz Salaria, chairman Youth Civil Society blocked road and disrupted movement of traffic for about two hours. They were shouting slogans against District Administration, GREF and State R&B authorities. They said that a vital bridge connecting Poonch town with Mandi was destroyed during 2014 floods. However, after lapse of almost three years Government has not even initiated work on this vital bridge.
They alleged that this bridge connects Poonch town with religiously important sites of Dera Nangali Sahab, Sai Meera Baksh Ziyarat and Buddha Amaranth shrine in Mandi but Government is not paying any attention to restore bridge. Baisakhi festival attract a large number of religious tourist across the State and Budhha Amaranth yatra is approaching, even this demand was strongly projected last year and Government assured that bridge will be restored within shortest time but no progress has been witnessed there.
Salaria equally blamed elected representatives of Poonch for lack of interest in development activities of area. He said Poonch people have three members in both Houses of Legislature but they are busy at capital cities and least interested in addressing issues of their electorate.
Prominent among those present included Gagandeep Singh, Ibrar Akhter,Imran Ganai, Mohit Sharma, Mohd Rashid, Imtiz Hussain, Asif Mir, Purphulat Singh, Jahangir khan, Muzammil Qureshi, Majid Khan, Zahid Gul and Asif Nishant.
