RAJOURI, Dec 30: The residents of Draman and Draj villages in Kotranka today staged a protest at Draman, expressing strong resentment over the alleged failure of the government to provide basic civic amenities in their areas.
The protesting villagers highlighted serious issues including poor supply of electricity and drinking water, besides lack of proper road connectivity, stating that promised development works have remained unattended for a long time.
Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Ch Zulfikar Ali, who was passing through the area, stopped to interact with the protesting residents and stood in solidarity with them for some time. Interacting with the gathering, Zulfikar criticized the functioning of the elected government, alleging that it has failed at every step to fulfill its commitments to the people.
He stated that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Scheme has not been implemented properly on the ground, road surveys are being frequently altered without execution, and transformers sanctioned under PRI grants have not been installed. He further alleged that promises made to the people, including the provision of free LPG cylinders, have not been honoured.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Koteranka, Syed Sahil Ali, reached the spot and assured the protesters that their grievances would be taken up with the higher administration. He stated that he would hold discussions with the concerned authorities tomorrow and ensure that the genuine issues of the people are addressed on priority.
Following the assurance from the Tehsildar, the protest was suspended by the locals hoping for early resolution of their long-pending demands.
