RAJOURI, Jan 29: As the transformers in the Dhannidhar area of Ward Number 16 in Rajouri town have been damaged, causing widespread anger among the residents, the locals came out on the road today and held strong protest against the Power Development Department authorities.
Expressing their strong resentment, the local residents blocked the Rajouri -BGSB University road and staged a strong protest against the power department, demanding immediate restoration of electricity supply.
Women also participated in the protest, blocking the road and chanting slogans against the department, urging for the restoration of power supply without any more delay. They stated that the power outage in the biting cold days has made life miserable for the people and is negatively impacting students’ studies. School and college students have their exams approaching nearer, and the power outage is severely affecting their preparation.
They accused local leaders, the power department, and the government of negligence, saying that everyone has abandoned the common people. The power outage is also causing a severe water shortage. Water is not being supplied to people’s homes through the Jal Shakti department pipes and people are facing numerous difficulties.
The protesters issued a stern warning, stating that if electricity is not restored by evening, they will intensify their protest. Police arrived at the scene to pacify the protesters and assured them that they would speak to higher authorities to resolve the problem as soon as possible. They alleged that after recent rains and snowfall, the power supply was snapped and till now it has not been restored.
