RAJOURI, Mar 30: The family members, relatives and the people of the area blocked road and held strong protest after the dead body of a youth was recovered under the Chakli bridge here today.
Reports said the body of a youth, identified as Aman Sharma (25), son of Rashpal Sharma, a resident of Chakli in Rajouri, was found lying under the Chakli bridge on Monday, triggering concern and protest in the area.
On receiving information, Rajouri Police promptly reached the spot and took the body into possession. The body was subsequently shifted to Government Medical College’s (GMC) Associated Hospital, Rajouri, for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the bereaved family. However, soon after receiving the body, family members and locals staged a protest and blocked the Jammu-Poonch Highway, alleging that the death was a case of murder and demanding a thorough investigation.
Responding swiftly to the situation, ACR Rajouri, Jahangir Khan, reached the protest site and engaged with the agitating family members. He assured that a fair and transparent inquiry would be conducted and necessary action would be taken on the findings of the post-mortem report.
Following assurances from the administration regarding a proper investigation and compensation to the family as per norms, the protest was peacefully called off and traffic movement on the highway was restored.
Meanwhile, police have initiated further investigation into the matter, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report.
