RAJOURI, Sept 10: Tension gripped Khadariya village under Kalakot Police jurisdiction in Rajouri district after an alleged sacrilegious act came to light today.
The police immediately registered a case and detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the matter.
As soon as the news spread, members of Hindu organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, along with local residents, gathered at the site and staged a protest by blocking the Kalakote-Khadariya road. The protesters strongly condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against those involved.
Addressing the gathering, Bajrang Dal District president Gaurav Mahajan alleged that cow smuggling incidents frequently surface in the area and termed it a conspiracy against the minority community. He warned the authorities that if those responsible were not booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), the agitation would continue.
On receiving information, SDPO Kalakote Surinder Mohan, along with other police officers, reached the spot and assured the protesters that strict action would be taken. He informed them that two suspects have been taken into custody for interrogation, and anyone found guilty will face stern legal consequences.
Following the assurance from police officials, the protesters dispersed and the blockade was lifted, restoring normalcy in the area.
