RAJOURI, Sept 7: The residents of Rajouri, particularly those living in Kheora and adjoining areas, have expressed deep concern over the worsening condition of the main road and badly damaged culvert (Puli) passing through Kheora connecting Thannamandi and Darhal areas.
This stretch also serves as a vital link to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and Mughal Road, after passing through. However, the road is currently marred with potholes and a severely damaged culvert, posing a daily hazard to commuters.
The situation has become especially alarming for ambulances transporting critically ill patients to GMC Rajouri hospital. The narrow and uneven culvert often leads to traffic jams and delays in emergency services. The problem worsens during the rainy season, as heavy water logging not only blocks vehicular movement but also seeps into shops and residential premises.
Just a few days ago, shopkeepers in Kheora reported significant financial losses after rainwater entered their establishments. Several vehicles were also damaged due to the poor condition of the road, resulting in massive traffic snarls.
Residents lament that despite repeated appeals, the concerned authorities have failed to initiate repair and maintenance work. The local population-including traders, daily commuters, and families of patients-have now united in demanding immediate repair and widening of the culvert, along with full restoration of the road.
The people of Rajouri have appealed to the District Administration, R&B Department, and the LG’s administration to take immediate cognizance of this long-pending grievance. Timely intervention, they stressed, will not only restore smooth vehicular movement but also safeguard lives, livelihoods, and critical healthcare access.
