People block Airport Road to protest water scarcity

SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Hundreds of people including VIPs and tourists were stranded after residents of Peerbagh in city outskirts today blocked the Airport Road and held protests against the water scarcity and poor drainage system.
Witnesses told Excelsior that nearly two dozen residents of Peerbagh including women came out from their houses and blocked Airport Road today afternoon. The protesters, who were carrying sticks, did not allow any vehicle to pass hence putting hundreds of people to inconvenience.
Due to road blockade, not only common people and tourists but the VIPs including top police officers were also stranded. The witnesses said many tourists preferred to walk so that they don’t miss their flights.
Witnesses further said that the police came nearly after an hour on the spot to pacify the protesters. Later the protesters dispersed after police assurance.
