Pentagon preparing for several weeks of ground operations in Iran: Reports

WASHINGTON, March 29 : The US Department of War is preparing for a multi-week ground operation in Iran, the Washington Post reported citing US officials.

According to the newspaper, any possible ground operation would involve raids involving special operations forces and conventional infantry units, and none would constitute a full-scale invasion.

As the publication notes, it remains unclear whether US President Donald Trump will approve any of the Pentagon’s plans, which have been developed over the past few weeks.

Earlier, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the arrival of the US Navy amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli in the Middle East.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran is carrying out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military targets in the Middle East
