JAMMU, Dec 9: J&K Govt Retirees Pensioner Employees Association has projected long pending issues of the retired and serving government employees
In a meeting of the Association under the chaimanship of Kulwant Singh Sambyal today, the members discussed issues and drew the immediate attention of the concerned authorities, public representatives and also general public to the long standing and unresolved grievances of pensioners.
Sambyal said the pensioner benefits have been stopped by the government, causing significant financial hardships. Many retirees have taken private loans for children’s marriage, education, and other essential expenses. Association is demanding release pending pensioner benefits at the earliest and to provide the benefits with interest, calculated from the date of pensioner, as compensation for the delayed payment.
He said withholding or delaying post-retirement dues is a violation of constitutional right to life and dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. Pension related benefits cannot be stopped are legal entitlements, not favours. They are earned after years honest and dedicated public service.
The suffering caused by the delays has resulted immense mental, emotional and financial stress among the senior citizens. Many retired employees are experiencing unacceptable delays often ranging from a year in receiving their Gratuity, GP Fund, Commuted Loan etc. which is retirement benefits, employees own hard earned saving; release of 18 months pending DA arrears, reducing the Pension Commutation Period from 15 to 11 years, granting an additional increase in pension at the rate of 5,10 and 15% after the pensioner complete 65, 70 and 75 years of age, respectively.
The pensioners have appealed to the LG Manoi Sinha and CM Omar Abdulla to intervene into the matter.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included -Ashwani Kumar, Rampal Chopra, Ashok Kumar, Charan Dass, RL Bhat, Rattan Lal, Satpal, Bumlesh Gupta, Satvir Singh, Jadish Singh and others.
