Sir,
Though it looks nice to see that J&K Traffic Police personnel have laid nakas/barriers at short distances to streamline the traffic and to check documents of vehicles, but after closely watching their activities, one can easily judge that these traffic police personnel have nothing to do with streamlining of traffic or checking the commercial vehicles but they are busy in performing their duties to recover their Hafta on daily basis with the blessings of their superiors. No doubt, the Traffic Police always remains serious to stop and penalise two-wheeler’ riders without helmets, but they are never bothered about the large number of commercial vehicles violating the traffic rules as these commercial vehicles are the main source of corruption for our traffic police.
We never see Traffic Police Deptt imposing heavy penalty for violation of traffic rules, whereas private vehicles (cars or 2-wheelers) are easily penalised/fined or seized by the J&K Traffic Police even for minor traffic violations. Adoption of double standard by Traffic Police is not understood to common public. In western countries, when anyone drives a vehicle (whether private or commercial) without valid license or documents of the vehicles, he would be penalised heavily or even be dragged to jail, but in India especially in our Jammu and Kashmir that is not the case. Although corruption is just like a cancer for a great Nation like India but in our J&K state, it has reached at a great height.
In view of the above, we request our the Chief Minister, Minister concerned and top officers of J&K Traffic Police to look into the matter and take strict measures against those indulging in such practices.
Yours etc….
