Addressing a press conference here, Tramboo said several youngsters had been detained and some were facing investigations and cases under stringent laws, which he said could affect their future. “Keeping in mind the future of these children, we appeal to the administration to release all the youths who are in jail right now and ensure that no FIRs are registered against them,” he said.
Tramboo said protests had taken place in many parts of the world after Israel allegedly attacked Iran and killed its Supreme Leader during the ongoing tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
He said people in Jammu and Kashmir had also come out to mourn, as many Muslims in the region regard Khamenei as a religious leader.
According to Tramboo, the first day of protests in Srinagar, particularly around Lal Chowk, remained largely peaceful as people expressed grief and anger. “We saw cooperation from the police on the first day when people were allowed to vent out their grief and mourning,” he said.
However, he claimed that restrictions were imposed on the second day, which he said led to tensions and incidents such as slogan shouting and stone pelting in some places.
He questioned the need for restrictions, saying that people had earlier been allowed to express their emotions publicly following the Pahalgam incident in April.
