JAMMU, Dec 17: The Jammu wing of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today staged a strong protest against the Omar led National Conference (NC) Government, exposing its complete failure to honour poll promises and address the genuine concerns of the people of Jammu.
The protest, led by Rajinder Manhas, general secretary along with Varinder Singh Sonu District president Urban , KK Sharma District president Rural and others witnessed hundreds of PDP workers and supporters taking to the streets and blocking the National Highway at Gandhinagar for some time, sending a strong message to the `insensitive’ NC Government.
Addressing the protesters, PDP leaders reminded the Government that its much-publicised promise of 200 units of free electricity has proved to be a hollow slogan. Despite being a key poll promise, the NC Government has failed to implement it, pushing common households into further economic distress amid rising prices and power tariffs.
The protestors also strongly condemned the complete apathy of the Government towards the flood victims of the August floods in Jammu. Even after widespread destruction of homes, shops and livelihoods, the NC Government has failed to announce any relief and rehabilitation policy.
PDP leaders further stated that the recent letter submitted by NC MPs to Union Home Minister Amit Shah has fully exposed the political surrender of the National Conference. “ By completely omitting the demand for restoration of Article 370, the NC has openly conceded to the BJP’s agenda and betrayed the mandate and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the leaders said.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Manhas said, “The NC Government has not only failed on governance but has also compromised politically. From forgetting its poll promises to silently accepting the post August 5 reality, the NC stands exposed before the people.”
The PDP warned that if the government continues to ignore public suffering and dilute core issues, the party will intensify its agitation across Jammu.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included- Satpal Singh Charak, Sunil Bhat, Ranbir Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Darshan Mangotra, Narinder Sharma, Parveen Akhtar and others.
