SRINAGAR, Jan 13: The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today sought a separate Assembly Session to discuss Mushtaq Ganie report so as to evolve consensus on the formation of new administrative units in the State.
PDP leader and former Finance Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Beig, while addressing a press conference here, warned Government of inviting trouble over the creation of new administrative units.
“The creation of new administrative units in the State will fuel anger and trouble among the people as they will be deprived of their rights. We seek a separate Assembly session to discuss the report of Mushtaq Ganaie committee on creation of new administrative units in the State to evolve a consensus,” Beig said.
The PDP leader said the Government should also make the report public so that people know its recommendations, and they don’t come on streets to fight one another.
“The Cabinet Sub-Committee is convening cosmetic meetings with their selected audience on political considerations to seek suggestions convenient to their political agenda. The Government has been spending lakhs of rupees on the advertisements of their so-called achievement, but not ready to publish the report in media,” Beig said.
The PDP leader said the ruling party is using the “lopsided” exercise for political gains in view of the upcoming elections for Assembly and Parliament.
“The National Conference is trying to use the creation of these new units for securing seats in the Assembly for some influential politicians at the cost of these administrative systems,” Beig said, adding, the MLAs and MLCs were not consulted by the Government over recommendations made by the Committee.
Questioning the timing of the Government over the creation of units, the PDP leader said the ruling parties are merely befooling the electorate at this stage. “The decision will be made on papers only and the recommendations of the report will not be implemented on the ground,” he said.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, who flanked Beig on the occasion, said the Government would invite trouble if it created new administrative units in a secretive, selective and hush up manner.
“We won’t allow them to repeat the fraud that was committed in establishment of health Centers recently which has left most deserving areas without the basic medicare facilities but served only interests of a few influential ministers,” Mehbooba added.
