SRINAGAR, June 11: Militants last night fired at the house of a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader in South Kashmir’s district of Shopian.
The PDP leader, Athar Hussian Reshi, told Excelsior that at around 11.30 pm, militants opened fire on his house which was returned by his security guards. “I was inside the house when I heard the gunfire. My security guards fired back and militants fled.
The firing created panic in the village. Senior police and Army officials reached the spot immediately to assess the situation.
A police official said that preliminary investigation reveals that the guards fired after noticing suspicious movement. He said the police are probing the matter.
