JAMMU, Jul 26: The Jammu and Kashmir PDL/TDL PDD Union has decided to suspend its month-long agitation for 30 days following a tripartite meeting with the Power Development Department (PDD) administration and the JKPEECC coordination committee.
The protest, which began on June 26, was aimed at pressing for regularisation of 557 PDL/TDL workers and compensation for deceased and disabled staff. Of these, 332 were recommended for regularisation by the Departmental Level Committee (DLC) in line with the JPDCL Regularisation Rules of 2022, and the proposal was approved by the Board of Directors (BoD) on April 11, 2025. The file, currently under examination by the General Administration Department (GAD), had been delayed despite the Board’s nod and was a key cause of unrest.
The JKPEECC held discussions with the PDD and JPDCL administration, urging the protesting workers to suspend their agitation temporarily, assuring them that all unions would join their protest if the matter remained unresolved after a month. The file is reportedly moving positively, and similar cases involving 55 workers needing relaxation have already been approved.
During the next month, the BoD will convene to amend the regularisation rules as per a recent GAD communication, enabling issuance of regularisation orders. A nodal officer will also be appointed to handle pending ex-gratia and insurance claims, and the wages of protesting workers will not be withheld. Based on these assurances, the union agreed to call off the protest and resume work immediately.
