JAMMU, Sept 26: The employees of Power Development Department (PDD) today held a protest here today against the unilateral move of the Government to operationalise the unbundling of the department.
Hundreds of PDD employees drawn from all districts of Jammu Province on the ‘Jammu Chalo PDD Bachao’ call of Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Commitee (PEECC), assembled this morning in the office complex of Chief Engineer, PDD and joined the protest.
The participants included engineers as well as technical and clerical employees. The protest was led by Coordination Committee leaders, Jaipal Sharma (president DEA and chairman PEECC), MP Singh (ex-president JKEEGA), Ramneek Singh (ex-president JKEEGA), Sachin (convener, Forum of Engineers) and others.
The protesting employees raised strongly the service issues arising out of non-transparency in unbundling. It is pertinent that service issues of 31000 plus employees is at stake as Government has failed to assure in terms of a detailed transition plan by publishing the same for the knowledge and perusal of the employees
“Like the corporatization of State Transport Department, which witnessed the miseries inflicted upon the Government employees deputed to the State Road Transport Corporation for their salaries, gratuity, leave salary, regularization, the unbundling of PDD into companies could repeat the same,” they said, adding, it will be detrimental to the sources of employment and promotion prospects of youth of the State.
The employees while raising slogans against the move of the Government called for immediate shelving of this corporatization as this is against the interests of employees, daily wagers, need based employees. The daily wagers and need based employees who have served for more than 20 years to the department have been awaiting regularisation and corporatisation could lead them into severe crisis and could be retrenched by companies.
They appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik that PDD should be retained as a Government department and allow this large sector of employment opportunity to grow strongly.
