PDD casual labour killed, two injured due to electric shock

RAMBAN, Aug 17: A casual labour engaged with the Power Development Department (PDD) was killed and two others were injured when they received an electric shock while repairing a faulty transformer in Gujrara Pogal area of tehsil Banihal.
As per police sources, a casual labourer engaged with the PDD identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, son of Abdul Rahim of Gujrara Pogal was electrocuted and two others namely Roshan Din and Irshad Ahmed, both residents of Gujara Pogal.were injured when they were repairing a faulty transformer in Gujrara Pogal.
The power was switched on by some PDD officials, when the trio was repairing the faulty transformer, which resulted into the incident.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the body of the deceased and injured persons to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ukhral, from where one of the injured was rushed to District Hospital Doda for advanced treatment.
The body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites after completing legal formalities.
Meanwhile, soon after the incident residents of the area took to streets and held protest against the officials of the PDD Sub Division Banihal for allowing the casual laborer to work on the faulty lines.
“The casual laborers are not trained to handle this type of works. It was the job of the lineman and the Junior Engineer (JE) to do the repair work. Had they performed their duty, a precious life would have been saved”, one of the protestor said.
The protestors were demanding immediate action against the concerned officials behind the death of the casual labour and injuries to two others.
After the assurance from the police that appropriate action will be taken against the officials behind, the protestors dispersed.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 62/15 under Section 337 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Ramsoo police station and investigation started.
