JAMMU, Jan 4: The birth anniversary of Mata Savitribai Phule, the great social reformer, pioneer of women’s education and a powerful voice against social injustice was observed with dignity, here today.
In this regard a programme was organized under the banner of the OBC Department, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
The function was held under the chairmanship of Madan Lal Chalotra, Chairman, OBC Department, J&K PCC and was coordinated by Amit Mehra, state coordinator, OBC Department, J&K PCC.
While addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted that Savitribai Phule was not merely the first woman teacher of India, but a revolutionary who challenged the deeply rooted social evils of her time.
“At a time when women and marginalized communities were denied access to education, she courageously opened the doors of learning and equality. Her life was dedicated to fighting caste discrimination, gender inequality, and social oppression through education and awareness,” they said.
Madan Lal Chalotra emphasized that the struggle for the rights of OBCs, women and other marginalized sections finds strong inspiration in the life and work of Savitribai Phule.
He reiterated that the Congress party remains committed to the principles of social justice, equality and empowerment envisioned by her.
The women participants expressed a strong resolve to carry forward the legacy of Savitribai Phule by promoting education, social awareness and women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
The programme concluded with a shared commitment to build a society based on equality, inclusion and justice, reflecting the enduring relevance of Savitribai Phule’s vision in today’s times.
Among others who attended the programme included Prem Sagar, Babli Madam, Kajal Mehra, Ritu Kaur, Sunita Devi, Jasbir Kaur, Saranjeet Kaur and several other women activists.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Mata Savitribai Phule, marking the occasion with respect and reverence.
